Meet one of our brilliant Woodwork & Joinery graduates, Hannah Sai Ayerkai from Cohort 1, who shares how ACTT shaped her journey; from training, through apprenticeship, to where she proudly stands today.
Having graduated from the University of Cape Coast with a degree in Management Studies, she wanted to do work that allowed her to use her hands and to be in control of her time. As a true creative, she initially learnt to do decorations, and decided that learning to use wood would greatly complement her decor skills. She was awarded a full scholarship at ACTT, and quickly embraced the challenge of acquiring these skills within a 6-month period. She calls this the game-changer!

In the first week of her apprenticeship, our industry partner emailed us praising her work ethic. They were very receptive of taking Hannah on for projects and even posted her on their social media pages. On the day of her graduation in the presence of close family, she received two awards: Overall Best Trainee and Most Innovative and Entrepreneurial.

She believes that women can do exceptionally well in skilled trades, especially woodwork and joinery, because women are very creative. Realising that one of her Facilitators for the program was a woman, and the President of ACTT as well, motivated her to push herself during her studies. Her story is proof that indeed with the right skills and guidance, you can carve out a future you can be proud of!
